In this article, I will walk you through the installation process for Ruby and Jekyll on Debian 9 Stretch. It is really a short how-to that will get you set with your development environment in a very short time.
In Debian 9, things are quite simple. All you have to do is to issue a couple of
apt commands and you are set to work with Ruby and Jekyll.
sudo apt install build-essential ruby-full rails
To install Jekyll use the command:
sudo apt install jekyll
Now you can check what are the versions of Ruby and Jekyll:
ruby --version jekyll --version
You can now go into your Jekyll project directory and do the following:
sudo gem install bundler bundle install
And to run the Jekyll Server use the command:
bundle exec jekyll serve
